Brazilian Pension Hysteria
Brazilian Pension hysteria… is very much warranted.
The biggest discrepancies:
– Average person retires at age 58, with life expectancy of around 80
– Private sector x Public sector retirees, latest numbers, 2017:
Private Sector: ~30 million people, costing BRL 188.8bln
Public Sector: ~1 million people, costing BRL 78.1bln
The math is pretty simple (Public Sector retirees costing over 12 times more than Public Sector retirees), but dealing with unreasonable politicians (and uneducated brazilian people) isn’t.
I wonder what will take for mass agreement on the obvious. It’s usually a social disaster as common sense is in short supply, but selfishness isn’t.
